Clock

A clock placed on your desktop that gets in nobody's way.

In preparationCreate an account

Clock installs on your device (Windows and Linux) and opens with your Prophetix account, the same one as for the web applications.

Clock displays the time in large digits, directly on the desktop, over your windows if you wish: it is transparent, and clicks pass through it to reach whatever it covers. To move it, you open its settings, which make it grabbable for the duration of the adjustment.

You choose the format (24 hours or 12 hours with AM/PM), the display of seconds, the font, the size, the color and the opacity. Clock lives in the notification area, can be hidden with a click and can start with Windows.

Clock is in preparation. It will join the Prophetix subscription catalogue when it is released.

Every feature of Clock

32 features in 7 areas

Time display

  • Displays the time in large digits directly on the desktop, over your windows.
  • Chooses between the 24-hour format and the 12-hour format with AM/PM.
  • Displays the seconds, or hides them.
  • Makes the colon between the digits blink, at half-second intervals.

Appearance

  • Chooses the font from those installed on the computer, each name being shown in its own font.
  • Sets the size of the digits from 20 to 200 pixels.
  • Chooses the text color from a palette of nine colors (white, red, green, blue, yellow, orange, pink, cyan, black).
  • Sets the opacity from 10% to 100%.
  • Shows the effect of each setting live on the clock; Cancel puts it back as before.

A clock that gets in the way of nothing

  • Stays transparent: mouse clicks pass through it and reach the window it covers.
  • Does not appear in the taskbar or in Alt+Tab.
  • Moves by dragging it as long as the settings window is open; clicks pass through it again when it is closed.
  • Remembers its position on screen from one launch to the next.

Notification area

  • Lives in the notification area, with an icon and a menu.
  • Hides or shows the clock with a click in the menu.
  • Opens the settings from the menu or by double-clicking the icon.
  • Starts with Windows, if you ask for it.
  • Displays a warning bubble when the license approaches its expiry date.
  • Signals that a new version is available.

Prophetix account

  • Opens My Prophetix space from the icon's menu.
  • Signs out of the account, or releases the computer so the license can be used elsewhere.
  • Stores the clock's appearance (format, seconds, font, size, color, opacity) in your account and finds it again on your other computers.
  • Keeps locally what is specific to each machine: the position on screen and the startup launch.
  • Picks up, at first launch, the configuration saved in your account.

On your devices

  • Windows: desktop application with its icon in the notification area.
  • Linux: same clock, same settings, notification icon, context menu on the clock and double-click to open the settings; clicks pass through it too.
  • Linux: starts when the session opens and opens only one clock per session; relaunching the application opens the settings of the one that is running.
  • No web or Android version: a desktop clock has no web counterpart.

Good to know

  • On Linux, clicks pass through the clock only if the system provides the necessary X11 libraries; otherwise the window remains clickable.
  • Clock is not yet published in the Microsoft Store.
  • The synchronization of the appearance through the Prophetix account has not been tried in real conditions.
  • On Linux, the clock has been tried only in a development environment, not on real computers.
