Dépannage
Troubleshooting
Internet, sound, printer, screen, slow PC: your Windows computer diagnosed and repaired step by step.
Dépannage installs on your device (Windows) and opens with your Etrebil account, the same one as for the web applications.
In simple mode, Troubleshoot asks you what is wrong — Internet, sound, printer, slowness, screen, microphone, a stuck program, USB —, then runs the checks one after another and suggests the fixes.
In expert mode, each area has its own screen: network (IP address, DNS, Wi-Fi, VPN, proxy), sound, display, printers and print queue, programs launched at startup, memory used by each process, group policies.
Load tests of the processor, memory, graphics card and disk, temperatures included, end with a report.
Every feature of Dépannage
65 features in 12 areas
Simple mode
- Asks what is wrong among eight symptoms: Internet, no sound, stuck printer, slow computer, screen, microphone, stuck program and USB problem.
- Runs the checks one by one, with a clear icon and sentence for each step.
- Offers a repair button when a step allows it: flush the DNS, renew the IP address, re-enable the sound, raise the volume or restart printing.
- Detects a muted sound or microphone, a volume that is too low, a printer in error and documents stuck in the queue.
- Reads the processor, memory and disk usage, and names the most demanding programs.
- Spots programs that no longer respond and USB devices in error.
- Offers a quick check of the whole PC, with a button to run it again.
Network
- Lists the network adapters with their type, IP address, gateway, DNS servers, DHCP, speed and status.
- Analyzes the connection: DNS, VPN, proxy, Wi-Fi and response of public servers, with one result per check.
- Flushes the DNS cache in one click.
- Releases and renews the IP address.
- Tests the response of a machine or a site with a ping.
Sound, microphone and display
- Lists the audio input and output devices, and changes the one used by default.
- Sets the volume and mute of a device, and measures the microphone level.
- Sets the volume application by application, or resets it to 100% for all of them at once.
- Checks the audio drivers, the permission to access the microphone and the programs that use it.
- Lists the detected screens with their resolution and refresh rate.
- Changes the resolution and refresh rate of a screen, and checks the graphics drivers.
Printers
- Lists the installed printers with their driver, port, location and status.
- Shows the queue with the document, the owner, the number of pages, the size and the time sent.
- Clears the queue of one printer, or all the queues at once.
- Offers an emergency stop that stops the spooler, clears the queues and sets the printers back to ready.
- Restarts the print service.
- Prints a test page.
Performance and startup
- Ranks processes by memory or by processor, over 50 to 500 lines.
- Represents memory as colored cards, grouped by category: browser, office, communication, games, antivirus, system.
- Describes common programs, with their publisher, location and impact.
- Ends a process, opens its location or restarts a monitored service.
- Tracks the usage of the C: drive.
- Lists the programs launched at startup: registry, startup folder, scheduled tasks and automatic services.
- Enables or disables a startup program, with a filter by source and a search.
Group policies
- Shows the group policies applied to the PC, with their name, path, type and status.
- Flags restrictive policies that may explain a blockage.
- Refreshes the policies with gpupdate.
- Opens the gpedit.msc editor.
Load tests
- Tests the processor with prime numbers, matrices, floating-point calculations or a mix.
- Tests the memory with a target size and an integrity check.
- Tests the graphics card with shaders, geometry, textures or a mix, at the chosen resolution.
- Tests the disk with sequential writes and reads, random access or mixed mode, with the file size and block size.
- Chooses the duration, from 30 seconds to 10 minutes.
- Tracks usage, temperature, frames per second, throughput and errors live.
- Monitors temperatures and raises an alert beyond the limit.
- Ends with a numerical summary and an HTML report to save.
Windows tools
- Gathers about fifty shortcuts to system tools: device manager, services, event viewer, firewall, registry, updates...
- Sorts them by category, with a search.
- Indicates those that require administrator rights.
Presets
- Saves the current state of sound and display under a name.
- Reapplies a preset in one click, for sound, display or both.
- Updates or deletes a preset, and shows its details.
Automation
- Drives the application from the command line to equip several machines by script or by group policy.
- Applies a settings profile: performance, gaming, privacy, balanced or workstation.
- Disables lists of Windows services: superfluous preinstalled software, telemetry, non-essential services or all of them.
- Enables performance optimizations, cleans up temporary files and optimizes startup.
- Exports and imports the configuration in a JSON file to clone it from one machine to another.
- Runs in silent mode and can close by itself, with an exit code for scripts.
- Creates a Start menu shortcut for a profile, and keeps a log of each run.
On your devices
- Runs on Windows only.
- Is part of Etrebil Remote: the tools are in its Diagnostic tab.
- Some operations require running the application as administrator.
- Can start with Windows.
Good to know
- The standalone Troubleshoot product has been merged into Etrebil Remote: its tools have not yet been replayed there after the merge.
- The diagnostic tools are no longer subject to the Troubleshoot license, a point that remains to be decided.
- The repair actions modify the system: read what they do before running them.
- The Winsock reset exists in the code but has no button in the application.
- Disabling services and the settings profiles require administrator rights.
