Budget
Your budgets costed by formulas, with their orders, invoices and reconciliations, for several people at once in the browser.
Budget structures a budget into sections and lines costed by formula, with option groups and a card view for comparing. Orders, invoices and their reconciliations are attached to the lines, and progress is read against what was planned.
A "what if" scenario lets you try out a hypothesis without touching the budget. Existing budgets can be imported from Excel, and a universal search finds a line, an order or an invoice.
It is the Etre Budget desktop application brought into the browser, for several organizations at once. It is not yet offered as a subscription. The desktop version remains separate.
Budget is in preparation. It will join the Etrebil subscription catalogue when it is released.
Every feature of Budget
67 features in 12 areas
Budgets and sections
- Creates a budget per year, with a title, a description and the total allocated, calculated from the lines.
- Searches a budget by name or by year, and exports the list as CSV.
- Creates next year's budget from an existing budget: sections, lines and options are carried over.
- Closes the financial year: sections and lines are locked, with the note "Closed on … by …". It can be reopened by unchecking the box.
- Deletes a budget, or exports it as an Excel workbook: summary, sections, lines and options.
- Arranges a budget into sections, each with a category, a strategy and a colour.
- Distinguishes the gross amount from the tax amount, that is, what falls within the financial year, with depreciation spread out.
- Draws a pie chart of the breakdown, by section or grouped by strategy.
- Draws a multi-year projection over 3 or 5 years, as a stacked histogram.
- Browses the budget's change history.
- Exports all the sections into a complete Excel template.
Lines costed by formula
- Costs each line with a formula, for example (1500+2000)/12, with decimal comma, parentheses and the four operations.
- Flags an invalid formula in its cell, instead of silently counting it as zero.
- Records a supplier, a description, a forecast date and a strategy for each line.
- Depreciates a line over a period in months.
- Shows the monthly breakdown of the line.
- Enables or disables a line without deleting it.
- Approves an expense with an approval date and a comment.
- Exports the lines of a section into an Excel template, and updates them from that template.
Option groups and card view
- Gathers several competing options into a group, only one of which is kept in the total.
- Marks an option as recommended or selected.
- Displays sections as cards that flip over: front, back, then discarded.
- Discards a card so that it no longer counts, and takes it back later with the option that was selected.
- Shows the active total and the grand total at the bottom of the view.
"What if" scenarios
- Creates scenarios to try out a hypothesis without touching the budget.
- Applies an overall percentage change, or a change per section.
- Compares scenarios with each other and with the original budget, and exports the comparison as CSV.
Orders
- Lists orders with search by name, supplier, internal reference or subject.
- Enters an order: document type and status, dates, currency, subject, internal reference.
- Details each order in lines: quantity, unit price, amount, annual amount.
- Drops the order's PDF onto the page and displays it next to the form.
- Exports the filtered orders as CSV or Excel, and imports orders from an Excel workbook.
Invoices and reconciliations
- Lists invoices with search by number, supplier or currency.
- Enters an invoice: number, invoice and due dates, currency, lines with VAT.
- Allocates each invoice line to a budget section.
- Reconciles an invoice with the order lines of the same supplier, with the linked amount.
- Displays the reconciliation summary: total linked, difference from the invoice, lines fully reconciled.
- Exports the filtered invoices as CSV or Excel.
Document reading by AI
- Reads an order or invoice PDF and pre-fills the form.
- When reading an invoice, offers the open budget lines to suggest the allocation.
- Lets you choose the AI provider among those the administrator has configured: Claude, OpenAI, Mistral or Ollama locally.
- Falls back to reading by text patterns, without AI, when no AI provider responds.
- Reads scanned PDFs and images by character recognition when the Mistral provider is configured.
- Shows the provider used and, if it reports it, the consumption.
Excel import and data takeover
- Imports budgets from an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file with a step-by-step wizard.
- Chooses the sheets to import, with a preview of each.
- Maps the file's columns to Budget's fields, with the decimal separator of your choice.
- Imports into a new budget or into an existing budget, with duplicate detection.
- Takes over a database from the desktop application (budget.db), all at once or nothing in case of error, with a summary report.
Search, reference data and progress
- Searches everywhere at once (Ctrl+K): budgets, sections, lines, suppliers, orders, invoices; each result opens the item found.
- Manages suppliers, with the option to hide them.
- Manages strategies, categories (with colours) and products (status, investment type, system type).
- Tracks progress: points, levels, day streaks and badges (Ctrl+G).
Organizations and permissions
- Signs in with the Etrebil account; each organization sees only its own budgets.
- Lists the organization's members, their role, their licence and their last sign-in.
- Read-only access without a licence: you can read everything, change nothing.
- Refuses a change made on an outdated version, when two people edit at the same time.
- Keeps the data on the server: a saved record is immediately visible to the other members.
On your devices
- Web: in the browser, for several organizations at once.
- Windows desktop: the Etre Budget application, a version separate from the web.
- Linux: desktop application with budgets, sections, lines, orders, invoices, search, scenarios and progress; the option cards are not ported there.
- MCP server for the Windows desktop: an AI assistant reads and creates budgets, orders, invoices, suppliers and products.
Good to know
- Budget is not yet offered as a subscription.
- The desktop version remains separate from the web version: their data is not synchronized.
- Reading by AI sends the document to the chosen provider, except for Ollama locally.
- An .xls file (Excel 97-2003) is not read: save it as .xlsx first.
- On Linux, the PDF viewer is replaced by opening the document in the system viewer.
